Issue addressed: Step up Florida’s statewide initiative promotes physical activity and healthy lifestyles to Florida's citizens and visitors, advocating its time for everyone to get active and get healthy by taking advantage of the great physical activity opportunities that Florida has to offer. Guest: Jennie Hefelfinger, Secretary of the Agency for Health Care Administration; and Chief of the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention at the Department of Health, offered experts employed by the Florida Department of Health to work together on Step Up Florida as the program traveled throughout 34 Florida county’s during the month of February. Representative from the DOH in Palm Beach County and Sarastota County worked together with the Rose Lee Archer Show to offer their expertise to promote Obesity Prevention during the Step Up Florida program. The mission of Step Up Florida is to increase 2000 steps more each day and add a healthy diet to your fitness program. Regular physical activity and healthy eating habits to promote lifelong physical activity and lifelong healthful nutrition, and assist those who are already overweight or obese to initiate healthy lifestyles. Featured experts included representatives from WIC (women, infants and children) funded through the US Department of Health & Human Services. WIC’s mission is to support low-income woman and children up to age 5 who are at a nutritional risk by providing foods and supplements to promote healthy eating and exercise habits. As well as interventions to prevent and treat overweight and obesity problems in mothers so that their children do not become a part of the growing trend of obesity in youth.
