employment offered at businesses and government agencies to increase their
career development. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission
(FWC) hosted forty-two ESE high school students from Palm Beach County for
the “2006 DADEO Science Career Day.” Administrators, biologists and law
enforcement teamed up with the AD F to introduce the many facets of
wildlife in Florida including - sea turtles, manatees, woodpeckers,
groupers, panthers and bears and how to preserve and respect Florida’s
precious resources in the wild. Students discovered how wildlife resources
are managed for their long-term well being so citizens and visitors can
enjoy Florida’s marine and wildlife.
Students were introduced to the many jobs that care, protect and prevent
wildlife from becoming extinct with hands on demonstrations designed to
create awareness and an understanding of responsible actions to preserve
Florida’s marine and wildlife. Mentors from the South Florida regional
office enjoyed the program’s successful outcome and they look forward to
next year’s event, said Lori Haynes, project coordinator for K-12 Project
Wild at FWC.
