			The History of Women in Space, takes us on a journey through aeronautic science and space exploration. Historical contributions by female explorers, set the stage for the new leaders among women in space. The vision of human and robotic missions continue to set new goals in space explorations.   NASA introduced America's First Women in Space, Dr. Sally Ride in the 1983 Challenger, though she never completed her third flight when Challenger exploded during liftoff in 1986.   In 1984, the first mother in space was Dr. Anna Lee Tingle Fisher and the first African American women astronaut was Dr. Mae Carol in 1992.   This young historical dateline helps communicate the numerous career opportunities available to meet the growing need for women engineers at NASA and high tech companies involved in commercial aeronautics. The societal benefits from NASA's work, created many spinoffs including Breast Cancer Detection tools and Ocular screening that produces the image of an eye to detect eye problems.   Today, both genders continue to serve NASA's mission by boldly expanding the frontiers in air and space to inspire and serve America and to benefit the quality of life on Earth for all.   More historical information on female contributors at NASA can be found at http://history.nasa.gov/women.html
